Artificial intelligence began as an ambitious and ambiguous story. Myths, stories and rumours of artificial machinery having been endowed with an intelligence par to that of humans by master craftsmen have been circulating since the prehistoric age.
The actual field of AI research originated in a workshop held on the campus of Dartmouth College, USA in the summer of 1956. Allan Newell and Herbert A. Simon had created the first "artificial intelligence program" a year before the workshop; however, the phrase artificial intelligence was first adopted by American Computer scientist John McCarthy at the Dartmouth Conference. Joseph Weizenbaum created the first chatbot in the year 1966, and named it ELIZA. The year 1980 saw the first conference of the American Association of Artificial Intelligence, which was held at Stanford University.
The rest is history. Artificial Intelligence grew to beat world chess champions, and even win Jeopardy. Humanoid robots, deep learning and machine learning are the more recent advancements of Artificial Intelligence.
